Everyone knows that a visit to the Dead Sea feels great.  But why?  The Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, is a unique combination of minerals, mud, salt, pure air, and sunshine – a combination not found anywhere else on earth.

Swimming in the Dead Sea has a host of therapeutic and health benefits, as does applying Dead Sea mud and minerals directly to the skin. Dead Sea mud thermopexic properties are reported to improve blood circulation and soften the skin.  A soak in one of the thermo-mineral springs located around the Dead Sea is recommended for visitors looking to improve their nervous system or relieve joint pain. Even the air around the Dead Sea has proven health benefits, as it is virtually pollution free, allergen free, and contains high levels of oxygen, bromine and magnesium.  Both magnesium and bromine are effective in reducing nervous tension.

Dead Sea Sunbathing

Due to the thick atmoshpere in the Dead Sea region, visitors can sunbathe here longer than elsewhere in the world. However staying safe in the sun is still an important consideration in a region which averages approximately 330 sunny days a year.  A new project at the Dead Sea Solarium is being designed to help draw attention to safe sunbathing.

The project uses a computer with a touch screen connected to the meteorological station. Sunbathers enter their personal information (weight, height, age, skin reaction, and history of sunburn) and receive a personalized maximum “safe” sun exposure for the following hour.
