For a panoramic tour of Haifa, walk along the Louis Promenade, where you can see an extensive view of the Baha’i Gardens, Haifa Bay, Mifratz Haifa, Galilee Mountains, Harei Hagalil, Acre, Akko, Rosh Hanikra and sometimes even Mount Hermon. Be sure to bring your binoculars and camera. The Promenade’s route will take you across the top of the Carmel, close to the Carmel Center through the middle of Yefe Nof Street between the Dan Panorama and the Dan Carmel Hotels. You can reach the Louis Promenade by buses: 23, 28, 30, 31 and 37.

The Route of 1,000 Steps is a series of four different walking itineraries outlined on a map distributed by the Haifa Tourist Board. It begins at the top of the Carmel and ends at the sea. The walk goes down 1,000 steps through historical neighborhoods and to places off the beaten track. The four routes are marked by color-coded steps. The branch to the German Colony is in (A) yellow; the red branch (B) goes to Wadi Nisnas; the branch to Kikar Paris is in (C) blue; the branch to El Pasha is in (D) green. Maps can be obtained for free from the Haifa Tourist Board, 48 Ben Gurion Ave., German Colony, Haifa 35663. You can also request a map by email: or call (04) 853-5606.

Haifa nature wallking tours are marked by the Nature and National Parks Protection Authority: The Ezov Stream route, the Siach Stream route and the Lotem Stream route. They recommend you use a topographical map for these hikes. For further information call: (04) 855-3860.
